ahve a ATI Radeon 9800xt (256mb), had it for about 2 year's of so, it runs like a charm like the first time I plugged it in this build . Lately I have noticed a problem which has me slightly worried.
This video card requires a 4 pin Molex connection to power it. So far this has happened 3X over the corse of a week . When I turn on the mahcine I get a black screen with scary red letters on it saying basically
"Your ATI product is not powered please check the connection or refer to the user setup guide"
Well the first time I saw this my jaw dropped.
(I am in the process of making a new build, with PCI-E slots this card is the old 8x AGP card. I did not want to have to buy another card to use for only a year or so. Until the DX10 cards pop out on the market.)
But pulled the card blew it out, nothing in there at all.
I hit the power to start up again, same thing upluggged the power connection this time, put a different 4 pin power connector on it, and restarted all was good, I thought.
Well about 4 days later after the machine has been off all night I turned it on, saw the message again, so I switched to the other 500w power supply. (I have 2 500W power supplies in my mahcine. Figured that the main power supply was gonna fail, soon. But thought that the problem was fixed. Fan was running fine.
Well it just did it again about half an hour ago,all I did this time was reboot it about 3x without touchign anything and it kicked in fine.
I have the latest drivers, ran dxdiag tests on it all all seems fine, ran PC Wizard benchmark tests, all runs normal
and no problems in Device Manager. The card is not OC'd and the card temps are fine, so overheating isn't a problem.
Any thoughts
