I have recently purchased an ASUS A7N8X-X MB, which has an 8x AGP slot, however I am trying to use my existing GeForce2 MX400 (AGP4x) video card. When I built the system, there was no video at all - I suspected the MB and returned it to the supplier, who tested it and found it to be faulty. The supplier replaced the MB with a new one (tested it first), however when I got home and tried it, the same thing happened.
The video card should (as far as I know) be able to work at 1.5v, which is required by the motherboard - however the video card came from another system that had blown up (AGP 2x motherboard). I would have thought that the video card was either working correctly or not working at all (almost every other component from the old system was dead) but now I wonder if the video card is somehow killing the new motherboard because it cannot operate at 1.5v? Is this possible? Or is it the case that a GeForce2 MX400 card cannot be used in the new motherboard?

thanks

The pictures for that video card show that it's universally keyed, meaning that it will work with either a 1.5 volt or a 3.3 volt AGP slot.

However, if all of the other components in the blown system had been damaged, then it's very possible that the video card is also damaged.
Borrow a video card, and install it. If there's a display, then the MX 400 is toast.

Be aware that many older nVidia cards were built out of specification and even though are keyed to be universal, really aren't and work at 3.3V only. I don't know if your particular card is one of these or not, I would be suspicious though given the situation.
