Bought an Asus V9520 ... using Asus DigitalVCR, it locks up and stops responding totally. In Cyberlink Power Director Pro, it shows a white patch that blanks out about 2/3rds of the screen and records in the same manner. I've already RMA'd this card once and Asus sent me another. It is doing the same thing. Asus Tech Support is not helpful at all, I'm beginning to think they coast and after 7 days the problem is supposed to go away. Anybody have any suggestions???
Hardware:
MB - Asus A7V8X-X
Ram - 512 Mb
Sound - Realtech (built in)
Network card (built in)
2 hard drives, Western digital, 300Gb total
Dell Trinton (M825) monitor (hoping to get better one later)
DVD player and CD-RW 5224 (Artek)
Belkin 3.5" floppy
USB 2.0 (Intel)
Iomega 100Mb zip drive (USB)
Lexmark X75 USB printer
Logitech Quick Cam (USB)(installed but not plugged in at present)
Anything else pertinent??

Any suggestions or help will be appreciated.

What are you trying to record? If it's a DVD then the white bar is a copy protection system built in to prevent piracy. I believe an application change might cure it. Try searching for similar subjects here. No number of RMA's will cure it unfortunately but an older card might be your solution

I am trying to capture home vhs tapes (family circumstances) and older vhs movies that will die in the near future that I don't want to have to replace. The family VHS tapes can't be replaced. I can't use the Asus Digital VCR at all without it freezing up in 20 - 30 secs, and while, Power Director Pro doesn't freeze up, I have that white patch. I've updated the drivers until I'm blue in the face. A thread from 2002 in this forum suggested that the Asus WDM driver doesn't work well, but the Asus video drivers do, and to use Nvidia's WDM driver. Did that, same results. However, the driver they were specifically targeting was 1.08 and the driver I found is 1.23, so it just might be that I need the 1.08 driver.

Whilst I'm not an nVidia user the common solution seems to be that all of the issues people have are cured by using the 1.08 driver. Try it and report back...

I've got an FX5600 vivo, and yes it definately is Macrovision causing the white bar. Search google for "nvidia wdm 1.08", as that is the last driver version not to contain the Macrovision copy protection schemes.

Also, if you're having stability problems with capture software, try out ATI's MMC 8.1. It's a free download off ATI's website, and although the included TV Player is meant for ATI's TV Wonder, you can still capture from an nVidia card with it.

The mpeg quality is not on par with other capture software, but it is still very much watchable; the stability of the software though is far beyond anything else I tried out (and believe me, I went around to every site I could find checking out trial versions).

Hey guys ... you are the greatest! I have been beating my head against a brick Asus wall since the end of August on this issue. I finally found the driver, downloaded it, uninstalled the Nvidia WDM driver, installed the 1.08. Wal-lah! It works and and even my digital VCR programs works clean and smooth. I'm a very happy camper. If anyone else needs this driver, let me know. I have saved it in several places (zip drive, hard drive, cd and a floppy) so as to not ever loose it again! Thanks for all your help, you have saved me a ton of additional frustration! Special thanks to Dakota81.
