Hello Everyone...

I'm currently using Adobe Premiere Pro v.7 and I've just recently started having problems with Video Capture.

Every time I try to log a video clip, APP freezes and it takes roughly 20 or so minutes for the clip to be logged. Even after I log the clip, it takes an additional 20 minutes or so to close the video capture window and move the clip to the appropriate bin.

I have already tried defragmenting the disk where all my clips are stored and updated my video drives, the problem still exists.

I'm using a Panasonic mini-dv PGVS300. Please keep in mind that I'm a newbie and not necessarily a technical person but I'm learning.

If anyone can help me or offer any suggestions, I'd very much appreciate it. Below is the list of my computer specs. If you need any more information, please do not hesitate to ask.

Computer: 21SG5
Shuttle XPC
Latest Chipset and audio drivers
Onboard Video (no video card)
2GB RAM
Athlon 64-3200
11GB free (2Ghz (CPU)
70 GB FREE (Scratch disks)

Make sure that your Preferences are set to have scratch disks on your video drive, not the default of your program folder.

Thanks Akribie,

This is done but there is still no change. I still have the same problem.

I was told on another forum that I should check my Events log for errors but he didn't tell me what I'm supposed to do once I found errors.

I think this started happening when my system checks for updates for certain programs several weeks ago. I can only guess that perhaps some of these updates are interferring with Adobe. Most of them to do with Logitech Video cam (I'm guessing) Not sure though.

If you can offer any other suggestions, would be very grateful.

Thanks,
Dianne

Certain extra CODECs installed by other programs/hardware have been known to cause problems for Premiere.

It's not something I've experienced myself, but if you look through the Adobe forums for DivX, for example, you might get some hints.

I have seen your posts in other forums and the replies there. There are many interacting possibilities and without specialist help on site I suspect that you will not find it easy to unpick your problem.

Hi Dianne,

What you're describing may be similar to a problem I had when using Premiere 6.5 with the Logitech Video Cam. I now use PremierePro (and still have the Logitech Cam) and the problem went away, but perhaps this suggestion will help.

In Device Manager, I disabled the Logitech Video Cam and that seemed to free up the problems I was having. Worth a shot - no guarantees.

Thanks Arkbie and LRSmith...

Just back from a long weekend and haven't had a chance to try capturing video. Have disabled Logitech. I'll keep you guys posted.

In the meantime, if by chance none of these suggestions work, is there someone I can contact directly who might be able to help? Tried contacting the Adobe Tech Support line but have been on hold forever.

Thanks,
Dianne

Ugh,

Okay, so I disabled my logitech and the problem still remains.

Any other suggestions?

Download a copy of Scenalyzer Live from and see if that captures any better.

You will need to set up the options in Scenalyzer - Type 2 DV AVI (default: for Premiere...). I use filename tagged with date/time as well.

Scenalyzer also breaks down the incoming stream into camera clips if you set the option, which is incredibly useful. I grab whole tapes and then delete the rubbish clips and trim back those with dodgy bits before starting edits in Premiere. Makes the whole process much more efficient and avoids wasting disk space unnecessarily.

The download is fully functional. You do not have to pay until you have tried it, but the captured footage of unregistered versions has a small watermark on some frames of the video.

If the problem persists with Scenalyzer, you have a computer issue somewhere. If Scenalyzer works, but not Premiere, you have a Premiere issue but can ignore it because Scenalyzer is a much better capture program anyway.

Hey Akribie,

Thank you so much. I was really hesitant about trying this but it works perfectly.

I'll be using this from now on.

Thank you for your time and helping me out. I really appreciate it.

I'll be back on this forum with more questions about Adobe in the future.

I'm relieved to know that my system is working just fine.
