i have a site that has the main system in one building and a port network in another building. They are connected via an ip network. They have a video conference unit of the port network but the trunks are on the main sytem. The video call will not work ie it sees the call as an analogue and will not complete does anyone have any ideas

I need to know more about your systems.
What exactly are you running for port networks-gateways types, server types, software versions.
What conferencing gear are you using?
IP Softphone will do this automatically over an IP trunk.

In a nutshell you will have to route the call over an IP trunk with network regions, codecs, signaling and trunk groups set accordingly.

Get me some more info please.

the main switch is an 8720 and the port network is a g650 with an ipsi for connection. The VC unit is a polycom vsx i think not sure but all that is presented is 4 BRI's to the VC unit. you can call internally to another VC unit within the building but when you try to go outside the system it fails

Me thinks ur out of luck. You are trying to send a 64K video call over IP. I doubt this is supported. I mean modem calls aren't even 100% in your configuartion.

The system supports:
VOIP
fax over IP
some modem over IP (debateable)
and not to be confused with Video over IP, what you are actually attempting is 64Kbps switched digital over IP.

not thinking you'll have any luck. you need local isdn trunking at the g650 or you'll need to just do video over IP only and not use ISDN / BRI.

On the IP-Codec set you are using for calls between those 2 port networks, go to page 2 on the ip-codec set, and stroke the "clear channel" field to a "y", then sets it to use 64K for video.

i went to site today and changed the ipcodec as you suggested and the VC unit works fine now
Thanks for your help

Well I just ran into this exact issue. BRI video across port networks. I want to say thanks to Mitch for his post as that was exactly it. BRI video calls within a port network worked fine but between port networks did not. Changing the codec from clear channel N to clear channel Y solved the issue. Thanks Mitch!!!

your welcome telephone12 and phoneguy55, I disovered this a while back, nice to know that "clear channel" works, and gets you the 64K data accross the PN's
