I've got a fast linux server with lot's of bandwidth that's not doing much right now.

I'd like to do a "pet" project to keep my Java skills fresh. I'll build a subscription service that supplies live video transmission (something like ifriends.com).

First question, is that considered multicast or unicast (where the video delivery is to a qualified address)?

Also, I see there are several Linux projects (videolan, webcast, etc.) out there for video broadcast servers. Has anybody had some experience with these? I need to get pointed in the right direction.

Thanks in advance, Jim
