Just upgraded to this motherboard. I reinstalled XP afterwards and updated all drivers. My audio seems to cut in and out in 2 second intervals. When playing a game the video seems to cut in and out in the same 2 second intervals. It's like constant lag every 2 seconds and I can't think of anything to fix it. I planned on upgrading the sound card but with this video thing doing exactly the same thing I don't think it's going to work out. I know the grafix card isnt the greatest but I had onboard video before with 64 mb RAM that never gave me any problems like this!

Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

I had a problem like this when recording from an ATI AIW 9700 Pro. I experienced it after I had paused the program and then resumed viewing. My audio recording and playback controls weren't set properly. As a result, I was hearing both the live audio and the, delayed, recorded audio. This sounded like a severe echo. It was solved by setting the record and playback controls properly.

Well this is totally different.

First off I installed a Nvidia GeForce4 MX440, had the same problems with the video and audio. I decided to give the ATI card a try to see if that helped with the video, but its the same exact problem. I'm thinking that it's nothing to do with the onboard sound or video card, and maybe something else, but I don't know where to look. I've DLed the latest drivers for each. Ran DXDIAG, tests passed, but of course there were skips and breaks during the tests. I've checked Device manager, can't find duplicate drivers. What else can I do?

It seems like the onboard sound processor is sharing an IRQ with another device that is causing a conflict. That usually explains "choppy" sound playback. Since it also occurs in your DXDIAG tests, that clearly indicates that it is NOT a video card or video driver problem.

Windows 2000 and XP are notoriously good at getting IRQ assignments down right. What you need to make sure of is that in the BIOS, you have "Plug & Play (PnP) OS" enabled. There should be a setting somewhere for it.

At this point, I would strongly suspect the driver being used for the sound device. Perhaps it's not truly XP compatible. Go out any buy a cheap $20 64-bit or 128-bit sound card as a quick test to see if the problem goes away. I'm willing to bet it does...

I am fairly sure at this point in time that PnP OS is enabled. What I will do tonight when I get home is to disable the onboard sound in BIOS and run DXDIAG again. If my video still has the same hang ups then what else could be the problem?
