I just put in a new soyo K7VTA mobo with AMD 750
Thunderbird and 128 MB RAM. Been having hangs or
lockups.
After MUCH investigation, found I can stop the hangs
by putting graphics hardware acceleration (in System
performance folder) to "none". After that, no hangs or
lockups. But then my son cannot play the good video
games.

I have a 3Dfx 2000 (PCI) with 16 MB vram. I have
loaded the latest video drivers from 3Dfx web site.
Does anybody know why this is happening?
On my old ASUS mobo with a Pentium mmx 225 MHz,
I had no problem, but with this new mobo - hangs!

Also, please tell me if I need to set any "AGP" parameters
in my mobo BIOS since I am using a PCI video card.
Mobo has one AGP slot, but I'm not using it.

Thanks! waf2000 - Retired PhD Biochemist.

Was not the Video Card or drivers!!!!

I may have solved this problem. I had not used the BIOS
Optimal Default Settings because if the Fail-Safe settings
caused lockups, then Optimal would be worse!
Wrong!
Optimal Default Settings in BIOS have fixed the problem.
I am wondering WHICH ones (or one?) did the trick ?
Here is a comparison of the changed settings from Fail-Safe
(which caused lockups) to Optimal Settings which work - all
the other setting are the same:
AWARD BIOS

Bios Defaults >>               Fail   Optimal
                                      Safe   settings
Advanced BIOS Features
Virus warning                   En       Dis
Gate A20 Option             Normal    Fast

Everything else is the same, except the
Optimal Defs stop the locking up !

Can someone explain which one(s) were
likely to be causing the lockup? waf2000 - Retired PhD Biochemist.
