Hello;
I’m rather new with this computer thing as well as with discussion forums, but I’m hoping someone out there will be able to provide me with some advice. I have an ASUS motherboard with a VIA chipset and I was told I should update the VIA drivers. Unfortunately, the VIA 4-in-1 driver installation seems quite complicated to a novice like myself and I’m not quite sure what/how to install them. The VIA website is also rather unhelpful, so I am turning to this forum for help.

My question is: There are apparently four drivers in the 4-in-1 file: VIA Registry (INF) Driver, VIA AGP VxD driver, VIA ATAPI Vendor Support Driver and VIA PCI IRQ Miniport Driver. Do I need all of them, or just certain ones? The README states that I have the option to do either a “quick install” where I have no options or a “normal install” where I can pick and choose. Which one do I use?

My system: I’m running WIN98 SE, with a P3 600Mhz processor, 384 MB RAM, and an ASUS CUV4X motherboard with a VIA 694X AGP chipset. The latest VIA drivers I have are the 4in1 4.38(2)v(a).

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and I thank in advance anyone who takes the time to respond to my query.

Best wishes,

It doesn't make much difference which option you choose. It didn't seem to make a difference, when I installed them anyway.

It should be ok regardless.

Not sure exactly what the "quick install" does, I always use the Normal. it will give you the choice to install or uninstall each of the drivers, choose install in each case and follow the prompts. It is an easy and relatively foolproof procedure.

You say you have 4 in 1 drivers but do not make it clear if they are actually installed or not. As long as you have a version of the 4 in 1 already installed I'm not sure that getting the latest will give you any great benefit, unless you are having problems. However you do definitely need some version of the drivers in there All things are possible except skiing through a revolving door.
