VI: Out of memory saving lines for undo.

Hi All,
I am facing "Out of memory saving lines for undo." while doind vi on a large file. Follwing is the output of DF

I have tried to see to the another post found in TEK-TIPS, but unfortunately the link is not working. Can anybody help me out please.

That must be one huge file. The undo buffer for vi is by default /var and your /var filesystem is pretty big with lots of space still left.

If you just want to look at the file, you could try using pg or cat <filename> | more.

If you must edit the file, the only way I know to edit it would be to use split to split the file into manageable pieces, edit the piece you want, and then cat the edited file into a new file. You'd still need a lot of space to do that.

Hi sraj,

check whether there is any limit on the user! ulimit!

compare that with the user of the other system.
