Hi,
If an encryption is done, by mistake, using the :X command in Vi, and the encryption key is unknown, is there any way of recovering the file?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Have you got a supercomputer? Apart from battering it with all the possible keys, I don't think so.

Have you any idea what keys or how many were typed at the 'Enter key:' prompt when the file was encrypted? That would certainly limit the number of combinations you need to try.

Annihilannic.

Your most recent backup before you encrypted it by mistake would be the best place to look.
