The VI manual pages says:The vi editor makes a copy of that file you are editing in an edit buffer.

Does anyone knows which directory the buffer will use ???
I have a customer who edits very very large files and im afraid that the / of /var will fillup because vi will need some diskspace for its buffering.....

Thanks already.

vi has a maximum 2Gb edit buffer the default is /var/tmp but you can change this should you wish see man vi
