I need to interface a VG248 to an Octel 250 VM using SMDI in the coming days. The VG248 uses a RJ-21X but I'm not sure what the Octel 250 uses. Appreciate any input on the interface as well as any issues you had to overcome.

Thanks.

Bob

What type of PBX was the OCTEL ordered to interface? It all depends on that to define what you need to interface with call manager.

It Octel 250 is connected to a NEC 2400 IPX PBX system.

i dont' think it's going to work with a vg then. The OCTEL card integrating with the NEC is made for an NEC and not a CISCO product. Is it analog integration then?

There is no way to get SMDI out of a vg248. You are doing out of band integration with the NEC and with the VG you can't do that.

Octel SMDI to VG248 works. Ask your supplier to provide a d type plug from the back of the SMDI connector on the Octel VM- standard pin outs. You then need to convert the other end to a RJ 45 which plugs into the Asynch port on the VG. You need to configure the number of ports on the VG - they have to be concurrent with no gaps i.e 1- 20 you can not load balance across two VG`s i.e 1-20 on one VG and 21-40 on another otherwise the CCM and Octel fails. You can use the debug menu to see the MWI on/off , DTMF inputs etc

That's why i like forums. you learn from other peoples questions. thanks iptuser.
