Every time I start VFP9SP1, the IDE comes up with the command window floated and the task manager on the start page. I dock the command window at the bottom and switch to the environment manager page, position the task manager where I want it, then type 'QUIT' in the command window. The next time I start VFP9 the IDE comes up as before, not the way it was when I quit previously.

This started happening after I tried to run a report with REPORTBEHAVIOR set to 90 rather than the 80 I had been using previously. The result was that when I ran the report my computer restarted. That resulted in 'The resource file is not valid, overwrite' prompt, to which I answered 'yes'.

How can I get VFP to remember my IDE settings and restore them when I quit and restart VFP?

Hi Mike,

Try deleting your Foxuser files, that is, FOXUSER.DBF and FOXUSER.FPT. If you've got multiple copies of these files, delete them all. If you are not sure where they are located, do a Windows search. If the files don't want to be deleted, make sure they are not flagged as read-only.

That should solve the problem. If it doesn't, come back.

Mike

Before you throw out your FoxUser.DBF, just make sure you have SET RESOURCE ON. The behavior you're describing sounds like it's OFF.

Thanks Mike & Tamar for the quick response. Resource was in fact OFF. Don't know why. I also had a ton of FOXUSER files, which I deleted. I kept just one, in application data/microsoft/visual foxpro 9.

However, after doing that, SET RESOURCE ON followed by QUIT entered in the command window still did not cause my IDE to be saved. I made sure sys(2005) shows the same resource file that I saved. Also, I discovered that the SET RESOURCE setting reverts to OFF when I exit VFP. I have to set it every time I start VFP.

Finally, I added SET RESOURCE ON to my startup program, restarted VFP and ended it via QUIT, and now the environment is saved.

Thanks for your help!

Check what do you have in CONFIG.fpw. Check its location with SYS(2019)
