Hello Experts

Recently I have been experiencing a problem only with visual fox pro 9 and my keyboard.
Every now and then ill be typing in a line of code, review it and sometimes ill have to go back and erase something or press enter to bring a line of code down, but pressing enter is where I face the problem, sometimes when pressing enter it doesn't work, it will go to the next line without bringing the line of code down. Even CTRL V fails to work and I get some weird symbol I don't even know. The minute this happens I can only fix the problem by closing visual fox pro 9 and re opening.

I have tried replacing my keyboard with three different types. Still the same behavior?

Look at the status bar of foxpro. There are three boxes, is one of them displaying OVR? Then you changed to overwrite modus, where ENTER does not move a line and in general typing overwrites text.

Just press the INS key to stop that.

This is really just a windows OS behaviour of that mode. It also matches your experience of being reverted, if you start over foxpro. It's not a permanent keyboard setting liek NUM.

Bye, Olaf.

Thank You Olaf I will Try
but how about my issue with CTRL V giving me a weird symbol?
I would post it but I don't know how to. Its a symbol Ive never seen before?

These symptoms do at first glance look like the system being in Overwrite mode, as Olaf suggested. I suggest you check that first.

But that wouldn't explain the Ctrl+V problem.

Do you by any chance have an alternative keyboard loaded? You can recognise that by looking for a blue icon in the system tray that's got a language abbreviation code in it (e.g. Fr for France). You would click on that icon to change the keyboard layout.

If you do, that might explain the Ctrl+V problem. I can give you more information about that, but I won't do so now, because it's unlikely that you have an alternative keyboard without knowing it.

Mike

Hi Mike

No, I dont have I alternate keyboard. Although I posted this problem in a different forum and I got an interesting response from Naomi.

Do you get this problem when typing code in the program or in the interface? The second problem is the indication that you don't have Edit menu defined at the time it occurs (the edit menu allows to do Copy/Cut/Paste, etc.). If you get this problem in between trying your program and going back to the Command Window, it means that the program is not released completely. You may try clear all, close all, set sysmenu to default when you experience such problems.

For some reason I think she may right where my prg is not being released completely and I may need to clear all, close all or set sysmenu to default. I will Try this the next time I get this behavior and keep you guys posted.

Hi Mikeisvfp,

Does the symbol you speak of look like the following: (ALT-0022) combination? (go in MS-WORD) and hold down the ALT key and on your NUMERIC KEY PAD press 0022, Is that the symbol? or something of that sorts?

Let me know.

Thanks,
FOXUP

Thanks Mike

@ foxup, no it looks more like a backwards 'L' but very small?

OK, I know, ALT-0172, yes?

I have the same question like Naomi, is it when typing code in the program or in the interface or form or inputbox or textbox or command box?

Thanks,
FOXUP

CTRL+V not pasting but adding a cryptic char is a sign of The paste menu item missing, SET SYSMENU TO DEFAULT restores the system menu and the Edit menu items, so pasting works.

You can also add _med_paste to your custom menu to keep that functionality working, in the menu designer click INSERT BAR and then add Paste to a menu of your choice, eg Edit.

Bye, Olaf.

Hi guys SET SYSMENU TO DEFAULT worked Naomi was right, Thank you Olaf I will do.
