Hi,

I have a report on database grouped by a certain field. Each group has variable lehgth about 0.2-0.3 of page size, so there can be several groups on one page. I need the report to start a new page *if* the entire group doesn't fit on the remaining space after previous groups, but I don't see the option. "Report/Data Grouping/Start Each Group On a New Page" gives *every* group a separate page, which is not what I want. "Report/Data Grouping/Start Group On New Page When Less Than" also doesn't work as I'd like, because I can't say how long a particular group can be.

Thanks in advance.

(PS. For a moment I thought that using Label Designer instead of Reports would help, but somehow it didn't)

I don't think there is anything you can do about that in VFP6. In VFP9 you might be able to use a Report Listener class to achieve what you want, although I haven't tried that.

Regards,
Jim

Kimed,

In the Data Grouping dialogue, can you see a setting "Start group on new page when less than ... " followed by a spinner. It's at the foot of the dialogue.

I no longer have VFP 6.0 installed, but I can see it in 7.0.

Mike

Mike, Geoff,

Kimed mentioned in the original post: "Report/Data Grouping/Start Group On New Page When Less Than" also doesn't work as I'd like, because I can't say how long a particular group can be".

Can probably still be adjusted, though.

Stella740pl,

Precisely. I *did* use it after all, but it a) doesn't guarantee that a group larger than default won't be splitted, and b) is a waste of paper, since I had to set a bigger than average size for default to avoid most collisions. If there's a better solution, I'd like to know.
