I have an accounting system in which the invoice report contains a general field which contains the company logo bitmap. Report runs from a cursor containing the general field.

When the report runs using Windows2000 the following error code is returned:

OLE error code 0x80004005: Unspecified Error

and application closes!! It works fine in Windows 9x. Using VFP5. Thanks in advance for any help.

1) Is this VFP 5.0 SP3?
2) How was the application installed on the Windows 2000 system?
3) Have you tried printing using a different printer / pirnter driver?

Rick

Hi Rick,

1)I didn't know VFP5 had SPs--Build# is 410. Do you mean W2k? The W2k is SP2. I may be exposing my level of ignorance here.
2)Have 2 W2k systems which exhibit the same result. In first case I installed VFP5 and then copied the folders from my old system. In 2nd I used app's installation.
3)Yes. Does not seem to care what printer or whether printer is local or network.

VFP 5.0 SP3 is build 415, there were a number of problems fixed in SP2 and 3. Go to to download it (I'm not sure if you can purchase the CD anymore). If you are just updating VFP, you only need the CORE files.

If you used a Setup Wizard install for your application, then my concern over missing or non-updated system files that the VFP runtime requires, shouldn't be a problem.

I'd also consider getting the W2K systems upgraded to SP3 - there were changes to some of the caching problems that some systems exhibited in earlier releases.

You might still want to check to see if there are updated drivers for W2K for the printer you are using - especially if it's an HP.

Rick,

Thanks. I am in the midst of a different crisis at the moment(also W2k-related!) so this will have to wait for the weekend. I'll give the upgrades a try & see what happens.

Brgds, Jim

Rick,

Thanks for your help. I upgraded to SP3 and re-loaded the General field and it works. Decided to try it before upgrading the Win2k to SP3. Thanks again.
