Anyone done any work with FoxPro that integrated with Microsoft's accounting ERP Dynamics Great Plain?

I have a new potential client that uses GP, with SQL backend.

i can see the tables, etc.. and i can read data easily from there..

however, i am curious as to see if anyone does any "writing" to the data from VFP..

i know, its straight forward to do that, as to write to sql server..

but, keeping in mind the integrity of the GP structure..

anyone done that??

i have some researching to do :)

You have to understand the impact of writing to a table in an established accounting system. I remember SBT (Written in Foxpro) affected 8 tables when making a single Journal entry. Get the specs!

Precisely Mike,

I have written 4 or 5 systems that writes to SBT (which is now Sage ERP Pro series 7.5)

And yes, they do impact tons of tables..

i intergrated it with FoxWeb, and Desktop app.. that was easy, as its foxpro tables :)

i guess, SQL tables isn't that much difference (in a way)

Not much different. But I would create whatever entry you need to make through the regular interface, and check the datetime() changes to the different tables that get affected (in a test environment of course).

I have done that kind of writing in the past (back-end writting) always assuring myself I have affected all the tables I needed to. But quite possible.

That's what i did with Sage (Accpac) :)

however, they had a data dictionary in pdf that kind of explained the field names and what they are.. sort of helped.

hoping Dynamic GP has that!

Salut Ali

As any accounting program, you should use a SDK to create or modify anything in the system. For GP, you can google “great plains dynamics sdk”. MS already have something for developers to modify journal entry, invoicing or anything in the system. My advice : even if you see SQL tables, don’t touch them, use SDK
