Hi,
I upgraded to windows 10 a while ago. I am happy with my vfp9 under W10 can't complain. The issue I didn't bother with at first is that every time I open a file with modify command the cursor go to the top line not to the line where I left it before. Also it doesn't save any toolbars selection from the menu, all selection disappears when re-enter vfp.
I didn't have this problem in windows 7 or 8 with vfp 9.
Is it windows 10, my setup of vfp 9 or something else.
Please advise,
Thanks

Do the experiment to rightclick on VFP9.exe and start it with context menu "more"->"run as Administrator".

Then make some toolbars visible, position them randomly, also do so with windows like command and properties. Then close VFP and restart. The IDE should show up as you left.

1. It's always the last closed VFP instance saving it's state.
2. If this only works for you when starting as admin, you simply have insufficient rights to save state to registry and foxuser.dbf and those are located in places you can't act on even if belonging to the local admin group. It is the same in Windows 7 and 8. I assume you modified access rights to the HOME() folder or - as wOOdy for example often recommends installed into C:\Users\Public, because the VFP IDE saves many things into files within its HOME() folder and that doesn't work through UAC in %ProgramFiles%.

The typical thing making this work even with normal user permissions is redirection into your own user profile, eg writes into Home() are saved in your profile and read back from there. It's still simpler to install into a public folder having no permission issues, even though a default location of foxuser.dbf is within your profiles AppData anyway. VFP really works flawlessly also non elevated, when you install it into eg C:\Users\Public\FoxPro9. You can specify the installation folder, so it's not needing any hack to do so, it's within the realm of normal actions during the installation interview to install outside of program files.

The lowered needs of privilages of course invite malware to hook into vfp9.exe or any other executable files in there, but I'd not be too paranoid about that lowered security of such an installation.

Bye, Olaf.

Hi
Problem solved:
I neglected to check my resource file location in VFP "tools-options", which was empty. Once I entered the location of the foxuser.dbf every thing returned to normal.
