Hi

Just wandering whether anyone is also experiencing problems with VFP and Windows Server 2008.

I have an application that is written in VFP 9 with quite a few sites running. I have had issues recently being reported with the application running slower in particular areas when the customer has upgraded their Server to 2008 and not touched or upgraded the application.

I have spent a long time investigating environment settings that could be the cause but have not proved successful yet.

Has anyone come across issues of performance problems with VFP and Server 2008?

not directly related to performance but you'll want this....

try putting set coverage in a config.fpw and look at the output to see where delays are occurring. How large is the program exe? You may need to set progcache if more than 9mb.

Make sure the pc you are accessing the app from does not have any unused network mappings. I have found this to slow apps down.

I think nigelgomm has it.

The newer versions of Windows Server have opportunistic file locking stitched into their SMB system and you have to go out of your way to remove it.

Op locks are a way to make servers 'bench mark' higher, and just cause problems. So, turn 'em off!

The opportunistic file lock setting can also cause delayed write issues with the buffered updates on workstations not getting flushed for an extended period of time...

This is the link to the support article on the opportunistic file lock settings....
