VFP ODBC connection failures under load

I am running multiple reports connecting to a VFP database on a database server on short recurring cycles (every 10 mins).

I am experiencing connection failures "cannot open sql server" randomly on each report - up to 35% of instances.

I am unsure as to whether this is
a) A CE issue
b) A VFP ODBC issue
c) A network fault.

Any suggestions welcome.

Try dropping all other connections to the DBC and see if that resolves. If so, the app may be using a set exclusive on for some tables and the connection is timing out.

Or try creating a copy of the DBC on the CE server, and point a few reports to it, I'm guessing the errors will go away, which means that it's either a network or VFP issue (not the odbc driver).

Or another means to help determine why this occurs is to turn on the ODBC tracing (tracing is a tab in the ODBC Administrator app). This creates a log of the SQL.

Good luck with it.

Still no joy,
Have run standalone VFP .dbc on local drive with no client connections. Running just 2 reports only on 1 minute cycles.
second report failing to connect approx 35% of time.
No exclusive app locks are on (as app is isolated)

Can only conclude it is a CE 8.5 or ODBC issue. ODBC trace does not reveal any abnormality, unless CE not handling one of the returns?

ODBC trace slows everything to near standstill.
