Our IS Dept had to rebuild both of my computers and now VFP's IDE windows look terrible. The fonts are too big/wrong for the tabs as well as for browsing tables.

I remember whenever we would install a new PC, there were some configuration files (FOXUSER.DBF...) we would copy over but it has been too long since we have had to do that I have forgotten which files they were/are.

Any suggestions on how to fix the fonts, at least?

Thanks,
Jason...

Jason. You are correct. The files in question are FOXUSER.DBF and FOXUSER.FTP. There are usually several copies of them. One copy is usually in whatever directory was current the last time tney were saved.

Launch VFP and go to Tools / Options / File Locations. Then scroll down until you see the entry for Resource File. That will give you the required path. Alternatively, execute [tt]? SET("Resource", 1)[/tt] from the command window.

There are also a few settings stored in the Registry, at:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\VisualFoxPro\9.0

These include things like the specification of the labels used by the Label Designer, and the default settings for certain system variables, such as _BROWSER and _REPORTPREVIEW. These are probably not items that would be customise, so you can probably ignore them. But if you do want to transfer them to the re-built machine, you can export the entire branch from the Registry Editor, then import it into the target system.

Mike, thanks for the info and confirmation, but unfortunately I do not have any backup copies of those FOXUSER files to restore/copy from. So, I am trying to figure out how to change the settings in VFP and then I'll make new backup copies and store them somewhere no man will ever be able to hack. HAHAHA...

For example, where do I change the font used for the tabs in the Tools Options window? Right now, the text is too big (see image).

And where do I change the font on the status bar at the bottom?

Thanks,
Jason....

Look into Windows Scaling fonts. VFP Tabs don't cope with setting other than 100%, but on the other side 100% scaling (ie no scaling) means very small letter on $K or similar HD displays.

Chriss,

I am not seeing Windows scaling any of the fonts. They are set to 100%.

Thanks,
Jasonn....

There is no setting within VFP that controls the font on the tabs or the status bar. It must be a setting within Windows that is causing these fonts to look wrong. The obvious setting would be font scaling, but you say it is set to 100%, so it must be something else.

Are you seeing any unusually large fonts in any other software on this computer, or is it just in VFP?

If worst comes to worst, would re-installing VFP be an option?

I am only seeing this with VFP and I have double checked my scaling and font settings for Windows. Everything is at 100%. I even tried changing the font in Windows and that did not change the tabs in Tools | Options or the status bar of VFP.

This is a fresh install of VFP.

Usually that's Arial, isn't it? It#s not by chance missing? Very unlikely.

Chriss

Arial is not missing. See attached image.

What about the very common solution to delete foxuser.dbf?
You might want to back it up and just see what happens, when VFP regenerates it to all defaults.
