The company I recently started working for keeps custom programmed foxpro executables on the network. Users in the company run the executables via shortcuts on their desktop. Multiple users may run the same executable at the same time. Are there any disadvantages to this? All of my previous foxpro experience has been with distributed applications.
The only disadvantage that comes to mind is performance. If the EXE is large, there is some overhead while that EXE is dragged across the network.
On the other hand, having the EXE in one place is an advantage, in that updates to the program are very easy to make, as you only need to update the shared EXE.
