We had small LAN with only 3 PC, all of them (still) run under Win XP Pro. On most equipped PC (most powerful) is an app we wrote with an app with VFP. Rest of two PC are just "slave" PC that connect to the "main" PC thru shared folder on "main" PC, with shortcut of type: \\mainpc\vfpapp\warestore.exe on desktop of slave PC. As they were in same room there wasn't a fear of intrusion. Before few weeks couple of PC added to this LAN, but without need to use VFP app, but still is an option that some worker could access to mapped folders and change or delete something on "main" PC. If we put some password for folder access then it will become trouble how to connect and provide password each time. Is there some better but still secure way for this way of connection? My friend suggested something like MS Terminal service but I never used it.
Before the end of this year these PC will be replaced with new with MS Windows 7 or Windows 8 OS, so I must bear in my mind also an option acceptable for this OS change.
Thank you.

There is no good nor evil, just decisions and consequences.

If all PCs are in a domain you can simply set the folder security to only allow the app users access, meaning you specify this in the file/folder security tab of folder properties and add domain user accounts with full or read/execute rights.

Users will just login to their PC and can then either access that share or not, without any further login to the folder.

That'll work with any Windows version.

Bye, Olaf.
