We have been running our apps across a WAN through Citrix for several years. The EXE lives on a Novell file server with its data. Just recently we have had random incidents of users running a report and locking up their Citrix session. Then it is like a disease. Once one user locks up running a report, all users on that Citrix server lock up. Users on other servers are fine and after everyone is logged off, say later that afternoon, or the next morning, all is fine again.

Does anyone have any ideas how we can troubleshoot this problem?

My 2 network guys and I have put a couple hundred man hours on that exact question. He has been doing lots of tuning, putting in new print queues, cleaning up profiles, we have new WAN hookups. John is suspicious of the network ports in one location but they are moving soon so it doesn't pencil out to have the ports checked. We have reinstalled printer drivers, service packs, runtime, I can't even remember all. I was just hoping someone had another idea for something we haven't tried yet.

It only happens in Citrix, but we don't have any machines set up as fat clients at the remote sites to test. The next thing we are going to try is to take the app off the Novell box and put it on a Windows box.

Hi
You can test it
Perhaps Report when is locked up have open an input dbf from TEMP - in report Environment.
So if User going out from Citrix - i think You have an session in state disconnected - You must reset this session not disconnect.
When all will be ok.
That name of cursor or database in DataEnv.. in Report is locked, and when Citrix is going to the disc - not reset is locking this file.

Try to Going Out with DataEnvironment in Report
and do temp file with structure as input to the report.

In Citrix You must doing temps as getnev('TMP')+... not via directly C:\TEMP or other - C:\TEMP is visible for all directly connected users to Citrix Server - and static names in code eg
name='C:\temp\output'
use &name alias output
is everytime in Citrix mistake.
On Fat Clients on local C: drives i going everytime good.

I think That will be Your Problem

Best Regards

We moved the app and its data off the Novell network and onto a Windows server. The problem has not resurfaced.
