Hi,

I was trying to install linksys notebook adapter to my xp system. They give you a cd to install it before you attach the wireless notebook adapter. For some reason, I had to reinstall the driver/software, but the cd wont run, saying that it is already installed on the system, to uninstall go to start-programs-wireless adapter-uninstall. I went there and found it to be empty after wireless adapter under the programs menu. Also in add/remove programs the entry appears but shows 9 bytes in front of it and nothing happens even if you press the change/remove button.

Please help, it took me whole day and still I cannot solve it.

Thanks.

it is 0 bytes, not 9 bytes as mentioned above...sorry it was a typo.

it says 0 bytes not 9 bytes, it was a typo, sorry about that.

thanks.

Something that may help is to look at the files on the CD. I had a similar problem with some HP printer drivers that would not uninstall. On the CD there was the Autorun program that runs when you enter the CD which stated that the Driver was already installed. However on the CD there was a seperate uninstaller that removed the drivers and also there was a Install folder that contained the "actual" install file instead of the Autorun file. By executing this file directly it did not check if the software was already installed.

not the best way to unistall a program but try finding it in your programs file removing then do a disk cleanup

Which Linksys adapter?

Under XP you should be using only the driver and not the client software.

You might consider downloading a new driver set, and using Device Manager, and in the Driver Details section of the device choose Update Driver and point to your expanded download set to the new driver.

I just suffered a similar problem on a new Dell 4600. Trying to install WMP11 card and could not get it to connect. I tried uninstalling from the file, the CD and finding files and deleting. Still told me it was already installed. The only way I could get the software to re-install was to wipe all reference to it from the registry files. BTW the WLAN client software was necessary for the WMP11 to run on the 4600.

tatios,

The WMP11 is a bear of a card to get to work. My personal congratulations for getting it to work. Yes, it does not support Wireless Zero and the WLAN software must be used.
