My company just recently upgraded our Base10-T hubs to Base100-T hubs. The hubs chosen (not by me) were SMC 5616DS hubs. There was already one secondary hub of this type in place at the time. After upgrading the primary Hub, some of the systems on the secondary hub don't "talk". All of these systems show Base10 connection, even though they have 10/100 cards in them. System configuration has been checked. Systems showing Base100 connections are talking. No new wire was run, nothing on that floor changed, I'm Stumped!!! The only thing I can think of is these systems are all laptops using xircom credit card adapters on a pigtail. My question is, is there a separate pigtail for Base100T operations, and could this be causing this problem?

Hello

Have the Xircom adapters got a LED for 100Mbits mode....If it has is it lit?

Otherwise you might have an auto-negociation problem on you're 10/100 cards. If the negociation does work properly between you're hub and nic card they will both default to 10 meg and at worst one tries to work at 10 meg the other at 100 meg and they both then give up working. Fix as many of the cards to 100mb full duplex to correct this!!

Some NIC's (even those of 3com)that are 10/100
do not run on a 10/100 hub.

My remdey on this is that fix the NIC to 100 only
then the hub can sense the NIC and will communicate
through the 100.
