Very slow to open old documents since moving server

Since we move all of our user's word documents from one Netware server to another, any of the documents that had been created using a template from the old server or that had mail merge links to files on the old server now take up to 2 minutes to open. The problem is that Word is trying to find the old location of the template and/or mail merge. Short of putting a "dummy" server with the old server name back on the network is there any other way of fixing these docuemnst not to look for the old server when opening ?
