I have to go into one of the offices I support when no-one is working tomorrow. We've all been there.

We had to reboot the Windows 2003 server last week - it's a basic P4 3.2 clone with 1Gb DDR400 and 2 mirrored Hitachi 10k 73Gb SCSI's and Adaptec 29320 controller. It took over an hour to fully shutdown and left it off overnight.

The next morning it took 3 hours to boot up fully.

It's not running a mail server and if it was just a shutdown problem, I would assume it's a driver issue or program not shutting down properly.

I can't RDC into the server, so haven't seen any logs yet.

Has anyone any ideas on why the slow startup?

Thanks,

Rob

antivirus??? dns??? try those!!

Your Event Logs should tell you exactly why it's slow. Like Schtek said, DNS, AV, services failing to start....

You need the update of your powershute software this is causing this i had the same issue last week.

The powerchute sw could do it OR it could be the 'Clear PageFile on ShutDown' policy. This will cause your retstarts to take a LONG time.
