Hello,

I'm building a replacement server for an old machine. I have installed SCO 5.05 on a CPQ Proliant 5500 with a Smart 3200 RAID controller and a Compaq Fast SCSI-2 dual channel adapter. In the new server there is a Compaq SDT-9000 12/24 DAT drive. I wanted to restore the whole backup of the old server (CPQ Proliant 1600 /Smart 2DH/Archive Python 04106) into a temporary storage area on the new server and then move the data files I wanted to keep into the correct locations on the new server. The old server was backed up using CPIO.
I started the CPIO onto the new server and it still hasn't finished after about 20 hours (backup of old server total: 5.5GB and took about 2 hours).

what could be causing this?

any ideas would be appreciated.

The problem will most likely be different blocking factors between the two tape devices. It will depend on what the original cpio command was on the python drive.

Put new tape drive in old server, or old tape drive in new server, I have had the same problem when transfering data off of old servers
