Very slow logon - *NOT* DNS

good mix of laptops and desktops

*some* of my laptops - mostly Dell D620 take 2-3 minutes from the time you login until you get your desktop.

It happens BOTH in the office, and when on the road just sitting in an airplane for example.

I'm thinking perhaps there's some service that was "tweaked" in this particular image... but since I didn't create the image, and there's no documentation, I'm stuck.

No crazy GPOs out there... No DNS issues... just this one model of laptop with a created ghost image...

I realize it's a stretch... any ideas?

Yes. Enable Userenv logging using MS KB221833 as a reference. Set the UserEnvDebugLevel to 0x00030002. After the reboot, log on and have a look at the Userenv.log located in the %systemroot%\Debug\UserMode folder. Look for huge time gaps during the logon process. This should help identify the guilty process.
