I have installed a new Windows 2003 Server and the backup transfer is going at 3 mb to a remote server.

All the rest of our remote servers are going at least 400 mb.

Remote agent is installed and I cannot find why it is backing up so slow.

Using 9.1 with current updates.

So what happens if you logon to the media server and goto start run \\remoteserver\c$

Try to copy \\remoteserver\c$\program files\common files directory to the media server. This should be around 150mb

What kind of copy speed do you see with windows file copies? Should take less than 1 min.

If not then check duplex setting on NIC and switch, etc

The backup server is has a 100 mb nic card and the new remote server has a 1000 mb nic card.

Both are on a 1000/100 mb switch.

When copying the common folder it is taking over 10 mins.

That were you problem is 10min to backup that little amount of data. Try it from another server I bet it takes less than 1min.

Check the duplex/speed in the switch and NIC ard setting on the remote server. Its a network issue not a backup exec issue

I tracked the problem to our new Server's network card.

For some reason 1000 speed is fine but when other computers that just have 100 mb try to connect to it goes very very slow. Like installing printers or just accessing the files.

It is not our switches because we have another Server with 1000 speed and it works fine using both 1000 and 100 connection.

For fun I connected the New Server to just the 100 mb switch and tried the backup and it was going about 50 mb. Much better then 3-5 mb but still very slow.

I then put the backup LTO tape on another 1000 mb Server and it was backing up at 1500!

So this fixed the backup problem but we still have an issue accessing the new server with other computers using 100 mb connection.
