Hi all,
I am having major trouble with my desktop and here's what happens. When the power is pressed on, the fans, lights, and pc overall runs (and sounds) normally. The keyboard's Num/Cap/Scrl lock keys illuminate once (normal- using Dell KB). The machine stays running, I can also charge USB devices..

However, no display is sent to monitor. KB is unresponsive. HDD does not make any read/write sounds.

I tried to boot again without any RAM and disconnect HDD. No beeps, same boot result as above. Ideas to proceed? Thanks in advance!

Swap known good power supply.

If no joy, replace M/B.

It sounds like part of the power supply has gone bad. The hard drives should spin with 12 volts and aren't, while the fans are. And you also have some problems with the processor clocking.

ok first ...did it ever beep...does it have the speaker for the case plugged in (some do not have this)

cpu failure can do this too

if you are not good at diagnostics you should not do this but bring it to a shop

unplug all the harddrives and cd/dvd drives..then try to boot
test your monitor on another computer
try a different video card

leave only one stick of ram in and test
pull the cpu and boot....it should do the same as it does now with no cpu
remount with new paste and test to see it it was loose

certainly try a different psu

have you done anything new to the machine?

I am betting failed MB or CPU

you never know...it might just be a loose connection to the mb from a psu...sucks when you tear a computer apart and find it was a simple fix

reset the BIOS

good luck
