Turn the radio up!!! 
Seriously, I've noticed the newer Cisco switches are getting louder and louder. I guess because everything is getting faster and smaller it is needed in order to keep things cool (or at least from starting on fire).
I started up a Cisco 4908 yesterday in the office and it sounded like a jet taking off. *J*
