I am a bit confused re MSDE so please bear with me. It seems the more I read, more confused I am become.

Note: Once I get past this initial confusion I might be able to phrase a more sensible question, but right now I do not even know exactly what to ask.

I have had a desk top version of SQL Server 7 on my laptop for quite some time. I am developing an app with it and all works well.

Today I tried to add MSDE 2000 and think I screwed up.

I received no error messages but am not quite certain what has occurred.

Everything still works fine through Enterprise manager except for the exporting of "all objects" from one db to another on the same server.

Note: Target dbs were created using Access 2000 project using server (local) or "Laptop" and are identical (3 each way)
Target DBs are listed in Enterprise manager under the same server "Laptop"

Properties indicate that I still have SQL Server 7 and everything looks and acts the same with 2 exceptions:

1:the export problem I mentioned

2:when I set up a Machine DSN the only SQL Server selection shows version. 2000.81.9024.00

Basically what I am asking is:

1: Can MSDE 2000 and Desktop version Of SQL Server 7 coexist?

2: I am under the impression that a database created in 7 is not the compatable with one created in 2000. Assuming that the install was successful I should not be able to open the new databases in Enterprise manager 7 (or should I?)

3: My choices are limited to (local) and "Laptop" when selecting a connection in Access (both existed when I had only 7 on my laptop). When I attempt to create a machine DSN, I find each listed twice. Can someone explain why?

I can always uninstall MSDE 2000 if I can figure out how to do it which is what I am researching now.

But I hesitate to do so since I might "clobber" something.

I did script the database to back up everything I need to restore the schema as well as the data before starting this so I can always get back to where I started, but I really want to understand what I am doing and what information I really need to be looking for.

Any help?

Thanks
