I am having trouble grasping this concept...

I have a spreadsheet that I would like to convert to a table. My spreadsheet looks like this:

Basketball Statistics

Points-Boys Points-Girls Assists-Boys Assists-Girls

April 120 100 80 90

May 50 80 110 70

June 90 70 40 50

1) How would I store this in an Access database? 2) Would I use 2 tables and relate the tables? 3) What would be the primary key in each table?

Once I can understand the comparison between this type of spreadsheet and tables, I will be fine.

Thank you!

I don't see any need for two tables. Just use one table with the following fields:

Period, date or text (depending on how you will use it)
BoyPoints, number
GirlPoints, number
BoyAssists, number
GirlAssists, number

This setup should accommodate any reports you want to generate.

How about:

Month
Sex
Points

Terry's suggestion is much preferable to mine. It's embarrassing for me not to have broken it down that way. -- Herb
