Very bad static in some voicemail messages

My system is a Merlin Magix 4.0 with Intuity Voicemai. Recently we had some work done in and around our phone system. Since that time we have had extremely bad static on some voicemail messages.

I don't believe it's related to the incoming call quality or that the caller is on a cell phone. I checked all the connections between the Magix and the Intuity. I tried disconnecting some of the voicemail ports to see if I could determine where the problem was, but since the Intuity is our auto-attendant I can't get anywhere that way.

I recall seeing some posts sometime discussing monitoring the progression of calls through the system. If I can determine for a given call which trunk line, which voicemail port, etc is being used, I might be able to narrow it down. Logs would be better than real time, since I'm likely to hear from a user that a voicemail received at a specific time was bad; I could then check the log to determine the path the voicemail took. Is there any such logging facility?

Any other suggestions in tracing down this static? It's not just a quality issue. Some of the messages are unintelligible.

What kind of work was done "around the phone system"?? Sounds like you may have electrical and/or ground issues.

Hi Tom,

Cablevision was in to add Optimum boost and Verizon was in to add FIOS. All services are in the same closet. The problem was intermittent. I was able to run System Monitor in Voice Administration on the Intuity and discovered it was one station/channel. I used Voice Equipment to identify the voicemail port. It looks like one of the ports was poor on the Audix O16 T/R card (although the pins looked OK). I swapped the voicemail port from the bad channel to an unused one, modified the configuration accordingly, and everything is fine.

System Monitor is kind of what I was looking for, but it's pretty simple. Isn't there a better logging or trace facility?
