I have read through the FAQ’s and every thread I could find about reports – (I learned a lot, but didn’t find a answer to this problem)
I have a report that consists of multiple columns. Because of the way the data repeats (and due to the users needs) I have the report divided into sections using headers.
Here is an example:
-------------------------------------------------------------------
(Report Header)
REPORT TITLE
-------------------------------------------------------------------
(Page Header)
HEADINGS FOR COLUMNS GO HERE
-------------------------------------------------------------------
(Data A Header)
[data A]
-------------------------------------------------------------------
(Data B Header)
[data B] [data C] [data D] [data E]
-------------------------------------------------------------------
(Detail)
[data F]
-------------------------------------------------------------------
(Page Footer)
(date) (page x of y)
-------------------------------------------------------------------
My problem with this report is that the text in [data E] and [data F] varies from just a few words to a couple of paragraphs. The others (A – D) are all just a few words.
In the report, I had to make the area for [data E] and [data F] as tall as the longest text value. Otherwise it would cut the text off – even though I set the can grow and can shrink values to “yes.” The result is that I frequently have large gaps of vertical space between data on the levels in question (Data B Header and Detail sections.)
I have set these fields to can shrink = yes, but that doesn’t do it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
