Vertical pasteboard between pages too large

I have been using Indesign for many years and have come across a new problem. In only 1 document I'm working on, the vertical pasteboard is now 5". It makes working very cumbersome. I have researched the question and found the only answer that actually understood the problem suggested trashing preferences (which I did to no avail) and the other suggested i export to an Interchange file which crashed InDesign & damaged my file. Luckily I had saved to a new name before attempting this. I'm seeing that this problem is not unique but I haven't found a helpful solution yet. Any takers?

Open the document.

Go to the preferences

Choose guides and pasteboard in this window.

At the bottom at the right hand side you can adjust de vertical space.
