Hi everybody -

is there any way to get the thin, vertical line between columns of text in InDesign? I can draw it by hand of course, but I cant locate such a thing in any style or text frame option - to make it auto...

It is very easy to get this in FreeHand (in the dialog with text-columns its just called 'rules'; isnt it fair and easy?). Its ridiculous, why cant it be so easy in InDesign? Or mayby I'm lookin on it all the time and dont see it?

Or mayby is there any plugin to do it?

Thanks for any help!

I con't know of a way, in CS, unless there's a script or plugin available at Adobe Share.

If you use this regularly it's easy to draw a 2 or 3 column text box and then put the line in the appropriate place, Then group the box and the line. Create a Library and drag text bos with the lin dividing columns into the library. Give it a name so it's recognizable.

When you need the text box with the vertical lines just open the library and drag it onto your page. Indesign libraries are handy for this type of stuff - saving a lot of repetition.

If you want to apply that box with the verticla lines(s) to many pages in a doc just put it on a master and apply to pages as desired.

Thanks for your time; I have to try this method.

One more problem with such lines - they can't wrap around placed images... But from the other hand placed image may sit down in slight bigger graphic frame with white background. That bigger frame will cover not only the text, but the lines too. This should work.

But there is still one minus of this method (for the future): tiff on the background, 3 columns of text with lines between them and placed image with text wrapping around. Of course I can do it manually, but...

Anyway, once more: thank you. And if you knew any plugin for that, let us know it also. :)
