Hi.

I'm relatively new to the apache and tomcat world. I have to get the web up and running before Monday or my boss will have my head. Couple of questions:

1)JDK; JRE; SDK. I know JRE is just run time; SDK is software develoment and JDK is Java Development -- I am assuming SDK is the preferred to use when you need to have java, etc.

2)mod_jk -- I understand there is mod_webapp (which is new, I think); mod_proxy and mod_jk. Most info I can find on the web reference mod_jk. Is there a reason? Is there a preferred?

3)Versions. I have to go with SDK 1.3.1 which I understand then I have to load the more robust Tomcat because I need the XML. Then I think I have to go with Apache 1.3.26 for compatibility, but there is one other business that used Apache 1.3.26; SDK 1.3.1 and Tomcat 4.1.17. Can Tomcat 4.1 be used with the above versions? Here is my situation, and please feel free to correct:

j2sdk-1_3_1
httpd-1.3.26
jakarta-tomcat-4.1.17
jakarta-tomcat-4.1.17-connectors
mod_jk

And one last verification: I have Apache as static and it uses the mod_jk to give to tomcat the JSPs to handle via the connector?

Thank you Thank you Thank you for any help.

Okay,

I think I answered one of my questions, here is what I am going to install:

Apache 1.3.27
SDK 1.3.1
Tomcat 4.1.18
mod_jk

One piece of info I did not mention in prior posting is Apache and Tomcat are on the same box and I am using Redhat Version 8.0.

But one last question remains on the install pieces & please feel free to answer the other questions. Don't I also have to install the tomcat connector?

Thanks again.
