I have had Many problems in Version 8...mainly Printer compatibility...and a SLOW editor/debugger interface. Has anyone tries version 9??. My contract with the school system here depends
on version 9 eliminating these bugs! Any version 9 Users??--Runtime??
I am trying to learn paradox 9. Have used access in the past and it took me a couple of days to learn it. Paradox 9 bites, help files stink, no good books on program.

I'm deep into the mysteries of WordPerfect Law Office 2000 including first time data base design on Paradox v.9. Tutorial presents a rote path which doesn't serve as a good introduction to newbies. Checked out Paradox version 9 at Amazon.com and found a useful review of the Corel Press Official Guide to Paradox 9. Reader suggests that best introduction for newbies is WordPerfect Office 2000 Bible, not Corel's Official Guide which is for advanced users. Now I wait for delivery. I'll update this posting if the book proves unsatisfactory to this Paradox

OwyheeMud's Posting: A follow up for newbies. I've received and started to use the WordPerfect Office 2000 Bible. There is a 160 page chapter on Paradox 9. I've found it useful because it provides an introduction to the data base design process in addition to the cook book description of the other basic Paradox processes. I've designed my first data base, created my first tables and input forms, and I'm finally making headway on a collection of documents I have to manage. The price paid was well worth the return for just the Paradox 9 introduction.

I found a GREAT book on Paradox, although written about version 7, it is my main guide for programming inParadox.
It is Paradox 7 Programming - Unleashed by Mike Prestwood.

I went back to using version 8 cause I have the runtime for it and I distribute programs that I have written. Hang in there. Once you get used to the programming language (ObjectPAL), you can create EXTREMELY powerful applications in a short period of time. My Advice: Use PROCEDURES!! Learn to Pass Variables to these procdures as i makes your code MUCH easier to maintain. I used this technique extensively in my C programs. It works in Paradox ,too. All languages have their little quirks, but you can work around many of the fairly easily. Good luck...
Cliff
