Hi.

Just started using 9 (I know, I'm behind). Anyhow, in 8, if I wanted just one corner of a rectangle round, I would do the following:
1.Create rectangle, apply round corner radius (under filter, stylize), then cut out one angle.
2. Create another rectangle, cut a corner out and replace it with the one round corner angle.
In 9, however, when I reach this part, whenever I attempt to join the two elements, 9 will automatically force the entire rectangle with round corner radiuses. Or, essentially it will take on the attributes of that one round corner piece. Is there any way to prevent this from happening?

Thanks,
DanH

First let me suggest a faster way rounding only one corner.
Make your regular square, then with the open selector grab the corner you want to round. Do a cut then a paste in front. You now have two different segments making up your square. Now just apply the filter to the segment with corner you want rounded on it.

You'll notice AI 9 has two features for rounding rectangles. One is a filter (uneditable) and the other is a "live" style (editable). You will want to use the filter version (just like 8) in your case. If you really wanna get fancy, apply the style instead, then select both shapes and use the new Style for pathfinder Unite. This will give you the ability to fill shape and edit the corner later. BEHOLD! As Steve Jobs introduces us the latest in desk-lamp technology!
