Hello,
does windows 98 support Version 9.0, can not seem to get anything right especially tinstalling the remote agent plus many other flaws.

nyanzi, yes it it, make sure you install the win9x agent found in the installation path of backup exec.

Yesterday I installed the Win9x agent on the problematic workstations and when I try to access them from the media server, I get the message "System logon account failed to access 'WORKSTATION'. The item was not found. I would also like to state that these workstations are available via the network neighbourhood.
Prior to sending this thread, the Veritas support told me to create a new user on the remote machine under the local administrator group, then create a logon account with the same username and password under Backup exec.
I am afraid though that Windows 98 does not have that facility. what should I do? heeeeeelp!!!

Nyanzi,

I sit here bleary eyed after many hours of cursing and screaming. However, I have a solution!

First, on the win98 box, open network properties and make sure the backup exec agent is listed under components. If not, add it as a service.

Next, open the properties for the BE agent, enable the backup and uncheck the password box. Check the published folders and save your changes.

On the backup server, change the credendtials for accessing the win98 box. Add a new logon account leaving the user name and password blank. Enter a description and save. Assign this new account to the win98 backup shares.

Hopefully, I'm not speaking too soon, it worked for a test run and the actual backup is running now.

Ray
