Hi All

I have just heard rumours of what Avaya might be doing when version 11 is released next year.
The major one I have heard is the ADI 9.1 upgrade licence will no longer be made available.
I believe this will force anyone with older kit to upgrade to version 10+

Has anyone heard similar?

You can run 9.1 with a 10.x or 11 PLDS license and who wants to upgrade to a older version?

With the release of 11 the support for 9.1 ends. So there is no need for a 9.1 ADI upgrade license. Nevertheless 9.1 (as it supports PLDS licensing) should work with 10.x or 11.x licenses.

We have a lot of customers that do not upgrade/spend money on something that is perfectly operational that, we maintain.
Still have alchemy kit still going strong :(
Customer are happy and if it failed have a contract from us to replace the hardware like for like. So has no interest in spending more money replacing there entire Pbx

It is going to make it interesting how we will be able to maintain these going forward if the controll untit is going to die.
Previously we could just install an Adi upgrade licence if the replacement box was burned with a previous release.

It sounds like this will no longer be an option.

It’s going to be interesting.

Well, there is a B-side on this story.
You kept them using the old system without telling them "a upgrade now is cheaper as a replacement later".
Avaya did have interesting commercial actions for replacing old hardware as the Network Alchemy or IP403/406v1/406v2 and IP412.
And now they have to pay for your lack of vision.

Interesting indeed.

Luckely or unluckily depending on point of viee, I just get the fun job of supporting the equipment.

I would have loved it if customers upgrade to the latest hardware/software.

I do see lot of companies moving to the opex model, that may improve things slightly.

I do worry for the future if there will still be work out there for reseller engineers.

A good engineer will always find a job, not necesserely in Telecoms but maybe in domotica or security systems or whatever needs to be engineered.

I am at a age were i will not live long enough to worrie about the telecoms future but in the past i never had any doubt to find a engineering job.

So don't worrie, live by the day and keep an eye on the future.
