Have a site where they are ordering a PRI from Verizon (local, not the MCI side).

They are offering NI1 and NI2 as the only two choices. We all know NI2 is out. But if I opt for NI1, will it work and how would I set the MAGIX? I saw a few other posts where people argued this.

Just want to confirm NI1 "could" work, if Magix is set to proper switch type (what?), they do or do not set L1 flags, etc.

Thanks

This is an increasing problem with MAGIX as it supports "AT&T Custom" protocol only. This is a long and tiresome topic that I don't want to dwell too deeply on, but the answer to your question is "maybe".

Reason I write that is I've found that some switch techs assume that NI1 and Custom are the same thing. If they are, then great. They are NOT but others on this board seem to have had luck with selecting NI1.

Personally I would hound the tech and remind him that there are at least three sides to the ISDN/PRI pancake. Yes, yes...we all know that NI2 is the defacto standard and we're all grateful that we can finally speak the same language. But the earliest adopter of ISDN developed their own protocol (that would be AT&T/Bell Labs) and that every switch I've ever dealt with WILL support it--via emulation if necessary.

My guess is that the carrier is trying to squeeze out the oldest protocols by offering you only two choices. But the truth is that you DO have other choices...you just have to be convincing.

One more piece of the puzzle to be aware of, if you have Merlin Messaging as part of your system - if you receive incoming calls with the number blocked routed to the voicemail, it WILL cause the Messaging to reboot and stop answering calls for a loooooooong time before righting itself again. Here's the thread that deals with it:

Yes, and Verizon: the Bell Atlantic & GTE people are getting more absurd and stupid as the days go on...!

ALL THE DMS10s, 100s, etc, and 5ESS SWITCHES HAVE AT&T CUSTOM PROTOCOL FOR LEGEND/MAGIX PBXs!!! It is part of the software.

So, if they want your business, tell them to get their act together, or you go to a different provider, or you can escalate up the ladder in management and rattle cages to wake up the imbeciles! It's about time the US public revolts against these ripoff corporations!

Don't take NO for an answer...
