Verizon FIOS

I work with a lady who just had Verizon install a FIOS connection in her home. This is their new fiber optic speed internet. She told me that all went well until they tried opening up Internet Explorer and got some message about the rpc server.I know I am being vague but more or less...she cannot connect to the internet.Is there any starting points to her her get back on her feet? Verizon told her that SHE must contact the maker of her pc..Dell..for a solution.

IE does not use the RPC service, olther than it uses services that have a dependency on RPC.

Could you describe the firewall in place for this user?
Could you describe the antivirus in place for this user?
Could you describe the previous type of connection used by this user (DSL, Cable, Dial-up)?
Is the user trying to connect through a router?
What version of Windows has the user?
Is Windows current at Microsoft Updates?
