So, We have three servers setup at our company and just downloaded the 60 day trial of Backup Exec 9.

What we want to accomplish is:
All three servers backing up to one tape library

We have:
1 compaq storageworks ssl2020
2 Windows 2003 Servers
1 Windows 2000 advanced server

What is the eaisest way to accomplish the goal here? I am aware backup exec has a network server setup but I cant figure out how to get it setup. Any help here would be great. If we can get this setup on the demo we plan to purchase licenses in the next few weeks.

Wjpdx,

For clarification, do the three servers you're wanting to backup, have too be backup servers?

If so, the way to get all three servers to share the same library is to select the SSO (share storage option)when installing. We found out from Veritas, that fiber is not required to use the SSO option.

I would recommend attaching the library to one of your W2k3 servers, and make it your primary SSO server and the other two secondary servers.

When setting up Seconday servers, it easier to first install them as primary servers, then use the BEUTILITY.EXE to attach them to the primary server.

Once complete, all three servers will share the same library and common MSDE database on the Primary Server. All catalogs will be stored on the primary server.

I really hate to sound like a n00b, But How do you setup a SSO? I cant seem to find it in either the setup or the installed program. If you know of any How-To's online let me know.

wjpdx,

Run setup again, and select the Shared Storage option. This will install the SSO features.

For further SSO setup information, you can also refer to the Backup Exec Administration manual. You can find a .pdf verision of the manual in \\program files\veritas\backup exec\nt\ directory, Titled: BEadmin_en.pdf.

I installed it on our server with the tape backup library and after it was done installed it on one of our other servers with the SSO Option and when it connects to the media server, All I get are options to backup the local drives on the media server and not the server I am trying to back up. Any ideas/insights?
