I just rebooted my Backup Server (Windows 2000) When I opened Veritas Backup Exec 8.5, where I would normally specify the name of the Backup Server (I only have 1) the username, password and domain, I get the error:

"Application System Service Manager Not Responding" What is causing this, and how can I fix it...I am unable to get into this application to work on jobs etc...

Are there any messages in the System or Application event logs to go by?

Have you checked your BE services to see if any aren't running?

Usually, an error launching the GUI is a sure sign that not all of your services have loaded yet.

You may also want to check as to how the services are logging in. When you installed BE did you create a dedicated user for the services to log in under?

If you did:
Stop all BE services, change the services to log in under the local Administrator account (with the approprate password) and restart all BE services

If you didn't:
Try creating a new (dedicated) user and give it Administrator and Domain Admin rights (don't forget to give it a good password too), stop the BE services, change the services to to log in under the new user's credentials and, finally, restart the services

Good luck, and let me know how it goes.
