We recently reinstalled everything on our server and now we are running into this problem. On it's backup job it keeps running and never completes(except for a couple times) nothing has changed between now and when it worked a few times before. It hangs at Byte counts sometimes 9gig, sometimes 24gig and like i said before sometimes it comepletes. when I go to cancel the job in the morning because it is getting stuck it says cancel pending and never cancels it unless I reboot the server. when I look at the details of the failed job everything seams ok in the job history. but when I go to the job log it gives me an error message. " Job log display error - One or more error were encountered converting the job log into a web page for display. The job log will be displayed in test format (C:\program files\veritas\backup exec\NT\Data\BEX00029.xml)

Media operation - overwrite.
No compression enabled.

This is the information at the end of the document:

The .DR file required for Intelligent Disaster Recovery is created/updated.
Backup completed on 6/7/2004 at 10:10:57 PM.

65 items were skipped.
Processed 2,890,450,352 bytes in 9 minutes and 43 seconds.
Throughput rate: 284 MB/min

The media operation was terminated by the user.
The connection to target system has been lost. Backup set canceled.

I am guessing we are getting these error because I reboot the computer so that why it is terminated by user and connection has been lost.

I also do not see any errors in the event viewer.

So any help would greatly be appriciated.

Thank you,
Jason

Try removing and recreating the backup sdhedules and the directories.

You will need to verify the times, (am and pm) to make sure that is correct, and make sure you have the correct directories,(which I'm sure you did that.)

Let us know how it worked.

Usually that error mean a couple things.
1) Check the alerts tab/alert history - see if its prompting for media.
2) A remote server thats being backed up is rebooted during the backup process or the remote agent may be causing the remote system to rebot (bluescreen, etc)
3) Are the services stopping on the media server during the backup?

Jed is right, re-create the job and selection list. Move the schedule few hour later or earlier.
